New Delhi: A 30-year-old labourer was killed and another injured after a quarrel over a matchbox allegedly escalated into a stabbing near a DSIIDC liquor shop in northwest Delhi. Police have apprehended two 19-year-olds and a juvenile in connection with the incident.The incident took place on Sept 15. The labourers, identified as Bhawani (30) and Asha Ram (32), were allegedly approached by three youths who asked them for a matchbox to light a cigarette. Police said an argument broke out, following which the trio allegedly assaulted the two men.According to investigators, accused Naresh Bahadur alias Nepalese allegedly attacked the victims with a knife, while the other accused, Tarun, and the juvenile assaulted them with their fists.A PCR call regarding the stabbing was received at Keshav Puram police station. When police reached the spot, they found bloodstains on the footpath and shifted the injured men to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital.Bhawani was declared brought dead. Police said he had suffered a deep stab wound to his back. Asha Ram sustained a stab injury to his lower chest and is undergoing treatment.A case was registered under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 109(1) (attempt to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was launched.Using local intelligence and technical surveillance, police identified the suspects and subsequently apprehended Naresh Bahadur, Tarun and a juvenile.Police said the knife allegedly used in the offence was recovered at the instance of Naresh Bahadur.Family members of the victims, however, told mediapersons that the two men had stepped out for a walk. Police said both victims worked as labourers and had gone to the area near the liquor shop before the incident.
