Patna: A five-year-old girl, who had gone with her mother to attend a wedding, was found murdered with her throat slit in a field at Dhurpaili village under the Amour police station area in Purnia district on Monday. The victim was identified as Somiya Kumari, daughter of Manjit Harijan.According to the girl’s father, Somiya left home around 4pm on Sunday to attend the wedding in the village. When she went missing, the family initially thought she might be nearby. As hours passed without any trace of her, relatives and villagers launched a search, combing temple premises, nearby houses, fields and other possible locations. Announcements were made from both the temple and the mosque, but no information emerged.Police said the girl’s body was found in an orchard in the village on Monday morning. Her throat had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon, and the body was soaked in blood. “An investigation was launched immediately after we received information. Given the seriousness of the case, an FSL team was called and key evidence has been collected. The motive and the assailant are not yet known. We are awaiting a written complaint from the family, after which the picture will become clearer,” said Awadhesh Kumar, officer in charge of Amour police station.The house where the wedding celebrations were underway turned into a scene of mourning. Shocked and angry villagers have demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and the strictest possible punishment.
