PMC collects over Rs3cr property tax in special drive
PMC data showed that 5,170 property holdings paid tax between Sept 10 and Sept 18

Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected over Rs 3 crore in property tax in the first week of its 15-day revenue augmentation drive with an average daily collection of around Rs 40 lakh. The civic body launched the drive on Sept 10 to bring unassessed properties into the tax net, reassess properties and recover nearly Rs 80 crore in pending dues.PMC data showed that 5,170 property holdings paid tax between Sept 10 and Sept 18. The civic body also carried out 1,032 new assessments and 385 reassessments, taking the total to 1,417.New assessments were highest in New Capital circle at 263, followed by Patliputra (243), Azeemabad (215), Kankarbagh (171), Bankipur (82) and Patna City (58). In reassessment, Azeemabad accounted for 109 properties, followed by New Capital (89), Patliputra (67), Kankarbagh (54), Bankipur (51) and Patna City (15).The drive was launched after PMC identified nearly 1.5 lakh properties with pending tax dues, including 689 with liabilities exceeding Rs 1 lakh. Total outstanding dues were estimated at nearly Rs 80 crore, with Patliputra, New Capital and Kankarbagh reporting the highest arrears.PMC commissioner Yaspal Meena said, “The revenue augmentation drive is gaining strong momentum. In just one week, the Corporation has collected more than Rs 3.5 crore in property tax, reflecting the positive response from property owners as well as the intensified efforts of our revenue teams. We have further expanded our field teams and strengthened the door-to-door campaign across all circles. Our focus is to bring eligible properties into the tax net and strengthen PMC’s revenue base.Under Bihar Municipal Act, 2007 and PMC rules, a 100% fine on the differential tax amount can be imposed where discrepancies are found in self-assessment, including incorrect details, suppressed construction information or wrong property categorisation.With the drive entering its final phase, PMC officials said field teams would intensify collection and assessment efforts across all six circles. Property owners can complete self-assessment online through the PMC portal by entering property, address and ownership details, uploading documents and GPS-tagged photos, and submitting the form. A SAS number is generated for tax payments and tracking.
