Rekha & Smriti woo state’s woman voters for BJP | Kolkata News

Kolkata: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and former Union minister Smriti Irani led BJP’s charge against Trinamool on Monday blaming the party for the women’s quota bill’s fall in Parliament.Speaking at a roadshow in Entally, Gupta said, “Trinamool and its allies have broken the trust of women. CM Mamata Banerjee has not protected the dignity of women in the state for the past 15 years. Women’s lives are at stake here.”Earlier in the day, Gupta, in a Facebook post, said those “who opposed reservation for women will be voted out”.Smriti Irani said: “We were surprised to see women netas tell party MPs to not let the reservation be implemented in the 2029 polls. None of the Trinamool MPs supported a proposal moved by the Union home minister.”Irani was recently the face of the launch of ‘Matrishakti Bharosa’ cards in the state, which promise Rs 3,000 monthly to women if BJP gets voted in. Irani and Gupta’s speeches through the Bengal campaign have focussed on women’s issues in the hope of loosening Trinamool’s grip on women voters.Defence minister Rajnath Singh, in Birbhum, said a “Durga Squad” would be formed to ensure women’s safety if BJP comes to office in Bengal.
