MUMBAI: The Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav Mandal has declared cash collections amounting to Rs 3.1 crore from devotee offerings as of Sept 19. Ganeshotsav began Sept 14.In addition its hundi where worshippers deposit bullion and other precious offerings netted 1.12 kg of gold and 19.75 kilos of silver by Saturday. Amid the offerings of gold and silver modaks, small Ganpati idols, oil lamps, necklaces, finger rings and chains, this year a silver pen as well as a silver carved cricket bat are among the cache the hundi has unearthed.The ornaments and artefacts are auctioned to the public the week after Anant Chaturdashi. Devotees vie to purchase them because they consider these items a form of divine blessing.
