Hazaribag: Armed robbers raided a house and an adjoining jewellery shop in the Chauparan police station area of Hazaribag district late on Friday night, holding family members hostage before fleeing with cash and gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 15 lakh.The incident took place on Larahi Road, about 200 metres from Singharawan More on GT Road. Police said the criminals entered the premises around 10.30pm, tied up the family members and threatened them at gunpoint. They then forced them to open lockers and cupboards in the house and the jewellery shop.After ransacking the premises, the robbers fled with cash, jewellery and two mobile phones belonging to the family. One of the phones was later recovered nearby, while the second was traced to Gurpa-Ghajandi area before being switched off.Officer in charge Pankaj Kumar said CCTV footage from nearby locations is being verified to trace their movement. “Raids are also being conducted at suspected hideouts,” he said.The victim’s family estimated the value of the stolen cash and ornaments at around Rs 15 lakh.
