Patna: A garage owner who was shot at in Patna’s Bhupatipur area died during treatment in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as Anjani Nandan Kumar, a resident of Ramakrishna Nagar.The incident took place around 10pm on Saturday when Kumar was returning home after closing his garage. Motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly waiting nearby opened fire at him before fleeing. He sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Kankarbagh by local residents.Police recovered three empty cartridges from the spot and began examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers.Sadar SDPO-II Ranjan Kumar said the victim died around 7am on Sunday. “The bullet got lodged in his head and he died during treatment. The body was sent for post-mortem,” he said.According to police, the preliminary investigation has indicated a dispute over payment for an SUV serviced at Kumar’s garage. “The vehicle owner had a bill of around Rs5 lakh, but had paid only Rs1 lakh, leaving Rs4 lakh outstanding. A dispute had broken out between the vehicle owner, his associate and Anjani over the pending payment,” the SDPO told TOI on Sunday.Police have detained two-three people for questioning. The SDPO said Kumar’s wife had expressed suspicion about some people, following which they were detained. Their possible role in the shooting is being verified.Police are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence and checking Kumar’s mobile phone. Family members are also being questioned as part of the investigation to establish the circumstances and motive behind the shooting.
