Hazaribag: A 38-year-old woman, Malti Devi, who was admitted to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital with a headache, died during treatment on Monday morning, prompting her family to allege medical negligence and demand an inquiry.Her daughter Muskan Kumari (19) submitted an application seeking investigation into the treatment. Family members blocked Jhanda Chowk in protest on Monday. A police team reached the spot and persuaded the family members to clear the road. They were then taken to Sadar police station, where they submitted a written complaint alleging negligence by hospital staff and sought registration of a case.Sadar police station OC Chandrashekhar Kumar said police have started a probe to ascertain the facts of the case.Malti Devi’s husband, Sanjay Kumar Choudhary, said she was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and died early Monday. Relatives said that her condition deteriorated after she was administered an injection during the night. They claimed that foam started coming out of her mouth about 20 minutes after the injection, following which her condition worsened and she died.Lakshmi Kumari, a family member, alleged that no doctor was present when the injection was administered and that the nurse did not provide adequate information. They demanded an inquiry into the treatment, medicines and the role of hospital staff, and said they were preparing to approach police.“She was undergoing treatment properly and the injection was administered as per procedure. The cause of death is being investigated. It would be premature to say anything before the post-mortem examination,” said Rajkishore, deputy superintendent of the hospital.
