Dumka: Three children aged between five and six years drowned in a pond at Chengayadih village under Jamtara Town police station limits on Tuesday. The victims were identified as Aryan Ansari (5), son of Jasimuddin Ansari, Nasir Ansari (around 6), son of Tabarak Ansari, and Amar Sohel (around 6), son of Sajaauddin Ansari.According to police, the children had gone to a pond at Chirkutola, about 500 metres from their homes, while playing in the afternoon. They are believed to have ventured into a deeper portion of the water body and drowned. Villagers rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and pulled the children out of the pond. However, all three had died by then.Jamtara Town police station officer in charge Manoj Kumar Mahto said the bodies were taken into police custody and necessary legal formalities were initiated. “Prima facie, it appears the children went to the pond while playing and drowned in deep water. We are verifying the circumstances and have initiated legal proceedings,” Mahto said.
