Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has divided the city into nine zones covering 176 Durga Puja pandals across 53 wards to ensure smooth civic management during the festivities.The civic body has prepared an action plan focusing on sanitation, street lighting and other essential amenities. Designated officers and field staff have been assigned to each zone and directed to conduct regular inspections, coordinate with puja committees and ensure the execution of arrangements on the ground.Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Kumar said, “Durga Puja is celebrated on a grand scale in Ranchi, attracting a large number of devotees to various pandals. Ensuring convenience, cleanliness, adequate lighting, smooth traffic movement and a safe environment for devotees remains the top priority of RMC.”Sanitation work will be carried out in three shifts throughout the festival, with night-cleaning squads instructed to intensify operations. Civic workers will undertake sweeping, garbage collection, drain cleaning, weed removal and spraying of bleaching powder around the pandals.The engineering wing will cover open drains with concrete slabs and stone dust wherever required to prevent accidents.RMC has also made special arrangements at immersion sites, including cleaning designated water bodies and constructing immersion pits in specified ponds. Puja committees have been asked to immerse idols only at earmarked sites to maintain cleanliness and protect water bodies.To eliminate dark spots and ensure uninterrupted lighting, streetlights across the city are being inspected and faulty lights repaired on priority. Special teams have been deployed in high-footfall areas, including Bada Talab, Upper Bazar and Main Road, to install additional lighting in coordination with ward councillors and puja committees.
