NEW DELHI: Sanskriti School in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri has received forged disability certificates for nursery admissions under the Children with Special Needs (CwSN) category for the 2026-27 academic session.Police sources said a senior school official wrote to Chanakyapuri police on Sept 16, seeking verification of three recommendatory letters and accompanying disability certificates submitted by parents seeking admission under CwSN quota. The documents claimed 41% hearing impairment and were purportedly issued by a Delhi govt hospital. The school told police it suspected the recommendatory letters from directorate of education, as well as the medical certificates, were not genuine and sought their verification.Chanakyapuri police subsequently conducted a preliminary inquiry. During the probe, the disability certificates annexed with the documents were verified and found to be forged.Based on the complaint and the verification, police registered a case under Sections 318(2) (cheating), 337 (forgery of record of court or of public register, etc), 340(2) (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The exact date and time of the forgery could not be ascertained. Police will now verify the origin of the recommendatory letters, establish how the disability certificates were forged and submitted and identify those involved in the fraud. Verification of the documents purportedly issued by the hospital will also form part of the investigation. A response was sought from the school, but it had not responded till the time of publication.Cases involving forged certificates are not new to the city. In the past, multiple cases – ranging from fake marksheets to EWS certificates – have been reported. In July, police busted a shadow education network allegedly selling fake Class X and XII certificates for up to Rs 10,000 each and arrested three alleged masterminds. Police said the gang had supplied nearly 150 forged marksheets, using the expired registration of an educational institution to issue backdated certificates and make them appear genuine.
