Buxar: Two girls were swept away in the strong current of the Kao river while bathing with family members near Pachdarwa bridge on Saturday evening during the Jitiya festival, triggering panic among locals.Villagers gathered at the spot soon after the incident, while local divers launched a search. The families informed Nawanagar police, following which SHO Prafull Kumar reached the spot with police personnel.The girls were identified as 12-year-old Anshi Kumari, daughter of Jitendra Singh, and 10-year-old Kajal Kumari, daughter of Bhim Singh, both residents of Dhawai village under Dawath police station area. They had gone to the river with women from their families to bathe during the festival.SHO Prafull Kumar said both girls were caught in the strong current and swept away. Another girl, Mona Kumari, who was bathing with them, was pulled to safety by women at the spot. Local divers continued the search while the SDRF team was alerted.
