Jhalsa teams visit hockey players’ homes after appeal for basic amenities

Ranchi: Legal services teams visited villages in Khunti and Gumla on Saturday after appeals by medal-winning hockey players and their families for toilets, housing and other basic amenities drew the attention of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (Jhalsa).Officials said the visits were aimed at documenting gaps in basic facilities and helping the families complete applications for welfare schemes under existing rules.The action followed a felicitation ceremony in Khunti on Friday, where junior Asia Cup gold medallist Binima Dhan appealed for a toilet at her home. The parents of her teammate Roshni Aind sought a house. TOI had earlier reported that another junior women’s Asia Cup gold medallist, Parwati Topno, was living in a partially damaged house.A statement said Jharkhand high court judge and Jhalsa executive chairperson Justice S N Prasad took cognisance of the reports and directed DLSA teams to visit the players’ homes and assess their living conditions.A DLSA Gumla team visited Parwati’s parents at Kumhartoli village under Kamdara block and assured them that steps would be taken for a toilet at their home. The team also accepted applications to link the family with eligible welfare schemes.In Khunti, a DLSA team visited the homes of Roshni and Binima in Uyur and Jariyagarh villages. Officials assured the families help with pensions, caste certificates, electricity connections, toilets and housing.
