Mumbai: BMC has scrapped the allotment of five plots reserved for civic schools to private players under its public-private partnership (PPP) policy. The move came four months after city BJP chief Ameet Satam wrote a letter to BMC chief Ashwini Bhide and mayor Ritu Tawde demanding its cancellation. He had said the policy was framed “in haste” during the previous administrator’s rule, when BMC’s general body did not exist and without adequate consultation with elected representatives. Congress had backed the demand. BMC then formed a high-level probe committee under joint municipal commissioner Sanjog Kabre. The panel recommended that the allotments be cancelled. Bhide told TOI that its report has been accepted. Seeking corrective action, Satam said BMC must appoint a committee to comprehensively review the policy, hold a detailed discussion in the civic House, and thereafter formulate and implement a balanced and inclusive policy.
