CAQM orders industries in NCR to install PTZ cameras for real-time fuel monitoring

New Delhi: Industries across NCR will have to expand surveillance through Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras to enable authorities to monitor fuel use and compliance in real time, Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said Tuesday. In a fresh order, industries have been directed to install cameras by Oct 31 covering all fuel storage areas and fuel-charging points. It stated that units using gas-based fuel will also have to ensure that the gas gauge/meter is captured on camera. It stated that the video feeds will have to be streamed in real time to the servers of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the respective state pollution control boards or Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). Industries will also have to provide adequate power backup for the cameras and connectivity.“In the light of pollution caused by industrial emissions, the commission had also prescribed a standard list of approved fuels for NCR for various applications, including industrial use. However, the flying squads of the commission, during incognito inspections of industries, have reported use of unapproved fuels in multiple instances. In view of the persistent use of unapproved fuels, the Commission has considered real-time monitoring of fuel consumption by industries necessary,” stated CAQM.CPCB had earlier directed industries to install PTZ cameras along with Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS).CAQM has asked CPCB, SPCBs and DPCC to create the necessary portals and infrastructure for the live feeds. Their implementation status is to be submitted to the commission by Nov 1.
