MUMBAI: Powai police have registered a burglary case after cash, gold and diamond jewellery, and 20 gold coins worth a total Rs25.9 lakh were stolen from a 17th-floor flat in Hiranandani Gardens without signs of forced entry.The complainant has purchased stolen gold coins was the complainant had purchased over six years through the bonus she got from her company.The packets of the gold coins was found stuff in the bathroom drainage when it choked.The Kansara couple discovered the valuables missing on Sept 15 and lodged a complaint on Tuesday.Police said CCTV cameras in the building, which has security guards, were non-functional and the burglar appeared to have known this.The stolen property included Rs7 lakh in cash, 20 gold coins weighing 10 grams each, wedding bangles, gold and diamond earrings, bracelets, chains and two pairs of mangalsutras.Kansara had bought the coins between 2008 and 2014 using bonuses and savings. She had received the cash from her grandmother after family land in Kachchh was sold on September 13.The couple suspects former domestic help Anitadevi Hemraj Prasad, 33, who was dismissed for making Instagram videos inside their home. They told police she had retained a key to the flat despite repeated requests to return it.Current domestic help Babita Yadav, 32, who has worked at the home for six months, accompanied the family to Bhandardara on August 29. They returned on August 30.Kansara said she had checked and locked the cash and jewellery on Aug 28 and kept the cupboard key in her laptop bag.On September 16, cook Reshma Sakhare, 39, found three empty packets, in which some of the gold coins had been kept, while clearing a blocked bathroom outlet.Police said the couple initially waited because they thought a family member might have taken the valuables and would return them.They approached police after nothing was returned.No arrest has been made.Police teams are trying to identify the accused, while the building’s security guards have been summoned for questioning and its visitors’ register is being examined.
