Darbhanga: The senate of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (KSDSU), at its meeting held on Wednesday, approved a deficit budget of Rs 456.63 crore for the financial year 2026–27. The meeting was presided over by governor-cum-chancellor Lt General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain.Presenting the budget proposal, university financial advisor Indra Kumar informed the senate that the total projected expenditure for the next fiscal stands at Rs 459.33 crore, while the estimated income is merely Rs 2.69 crore, resulting in a substantial deficit. He added that the deficit in the previous financial year (2025–26) was Rs 448.66 crore, indicating an increase of about Rs 8 crore in the current fiscal.Kumar further stated that a significant portion of the university’s expenditure would go towards salaries. An amount of Rs 19.67 crore has been earmarked for the salaries of teaching staff of postgraduate departments and various constituent colleges under the university.Addressing the senate, the chancellor assured members that the long-standing problems related to higher education would be resolved. He said he had taken note of the issues raised during the meeting concerning university administration and functioning. Hasnain thanked the senate members for their inputs and said he would personally sit with the vice-chancellor and other senior officials to chalk out practical solutions.Emphasising the need for administrative reforms, the chancellor raised the issue of automation in universities and highlighted the relevance of the Samarth portal. He stressed that students must be provided all necessary facilities for effective classroom learning, which would require the creation of strong and sustainable infrastructure.Hasnain directed the vice-chancellor to forward all problems raised during the meeting to the chancellor’s office within a week. He said issues that could be resolved locally should be addressed immediately, while others would be discussed at a higher level.Earlier in the day, the chancellor inaugurated a five-day national conference on “Business Research in Contemporary Times”, organised by the department of commerce and business administration of Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU).Speaking as the chief guest, he described the theme as broad and relevant, stressing the need for leadership, continuity and mutual understanding to promote business research. He said Bihar abounded in intellectual ability and the next 5–10 years would be crucial for the state’s development.Stressing social responsibility, Hasnain said India must focus on delivering social messages, expressing confidence that the country would become tuberculosis-free, as it overcame challenges like Covid-19 and polio. He also appealed for avoiding the use of plastic.
