Kolkata: As the city remains under a strict security blanket ahead of the assembly elections, the Kolkata Police intercepted and seized Rs 5 lakh in unaccounted cash during coordinated naka checks across two police station jurisdictions on Tuesday. The first interception occurred around 10.45 am near J L Nehru Road. Officers from the Shakespeare Sarani PS, supported by a Static Surveillance Team (SST), flagged down a vehicle. Upon inspection, Rs 1,00,000 was recovered from an occupant. A second seizure was made under the Burtolla Police Station area in the afternoon. During a checking drive at APC Roy Road, SST intercepted another vehicle and a search of the car led to the recovery of Rs 4,00,000. In both instances, the accused failed to produce valid documentation or explain the source of the funds. The total amount of Rs 5,00,000 was deposited at the respective police stations following standard legal procedures.
