Valarmathi’s husband booked for blocking city road during poll

Chennai: Nungambakkam police have booked Balasubramanian, husband of AIADMK Thousand Lights constituency candidate and former minister B Valarmathi, for staging a road blockade and obstructing public servants during polling near Valluvar Kottam on Thursday. According to police, Balasubramanian was protesting near the Valluvar Kottam signal and was accusing DMK workers of malpractice. Police personnel asked him to move away as he was causing traffic disruption. An argument broke out between them. Despite efforts by officers, he continued the protest. He was later removed from the spot by police personnel. Based on a complaint filed by the police deployed at the polling station, Nungambakkam police registered a case against him under four sections, including charges related to obstructing a public servant from discharging duty, unlawful protest in a restricted area, and provisions of the City Police Act. Further investigation is underway.
