MSEDCL peak demand hits record high of 28,303 MW

Mumbai: MSEDCL‘s peak power demand has hit a record high of 28,303 MW amid rising temperatures across several districts in the state. A day earlier, the peak demand recorded was 27,230 MW.An MSEDCL official said the power utility catered to nearly 3 crore consumers and ensured there was no load shedding, with availability of solar power and also procurement of additional electricity from the exchange. Mumbai, too, recorded over 3500 MW peak power load while the overall electricity peak demand in Maharashtra was close to 32,000 MW . MSEDCL, which supplies electricity to nearly three crore consumers across Maharashtra, including a vast base of agricultural and industrial users, is facing severe strain on its network amid rising temperatures and prolonged hot, humid weather. Urban centres, especially Mumbai, have seen extreme heat and sultry conditions, pushing up the use of air-conditioners, coolers, pumps and commercial electrical loads.
