Travellers entering Chennai from Andhra Pradesh via Gummidipoondi receive a poor welcome to the city, with the NH-16 stretch till Madhavaram lacking even basic roadside amenities. The entry point near the toll plaza doesn’t have proper eateries, cafés, or restrooms, leaving motorists with little option for a break after long drives. Tourists heading to waterfalls in Tada, Nagalapuram, and Nagari, and those entering Chennai must rely on Red Hills town for food. The restrooms in the toll plaza, too, are in bad shape, and the truck congestion, without parking bays, pushes commuters to continue their drive without any prospect to pull over. Though there are some restaurants in Red Hills, there is no parking space for cars on the narrow road, and this pushes many to drive 10km to Madhavaram to find a restaurant.
