Patna: The Ganga Research Centre-cum-Museum at Collectorate Ghat, originally constructed by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation and later handed over to the Patna Municipal Corporation, has now been transferred to the Patna district administration. The facility will house the District Ganga Committee office and serve as a centre for research and awareness.The administration will construct a boundary wall and install utilities at the site. Post-construction, the area will be developed with green belts, lighting, drinking water and sanitation facilities to serve as a hub for research and public awareness.DM Thiyagarajan S M chaired the District Ganga Committee meeting at the Collectorate on Sunday, where the decision was taken. The committee reviewed conservation efforts for the Ganga and its tributaries, involving officials from Buidco, PMC and the Namami Gange project.The review of the five Namami Gange pillars focused on progress across sectors. Under Nirmal Ganga, Buidco reported the Digha sewage treatment plant is nearing completion to tap city drains. For Aviral Ganga, officials were directed to monitor the river’s natural flow and control illegal sand mining.The Jan Ganga pillar stressed community participation through the Ganga Doot programme and student outreach. Under Gyan Ganga, water quality data and dolphin conservation research were reviewed. The Arth Ganga initiative focused on linking conservation with the local economy through organic farming, river tourism and support to women’s self-help groups.The meeting concluded with a directive to complete pollution control projects within fixed timelines.
