Madras HC asks Southern Railway, Greater Chennai Corporation and Metrowater to repond to petition on water leakage issue in Saidapet’s C P Pavala Vannan Subway

Chennai: A lawyer has moved Madras high court alleging leakage of water in C P Pavala Vannan Subway in Saidapet. He alleged that two-wheeler riders and cyclists who use the subway face a lot of difficulties and hardship while passing through the subway. Admitting the petitionon Monday, Justice Abdul Quddhose directed the Southern Railway, Greater Chennai Corporation and Metrowater to respond to the plea within four weeks. According to petitioner S P Chockalingam, dirty water dripping from the viaduct of the subway falls on pedestrians, riders and pillion riders crossing the subway. To avoid this, riders manoeuvre at the spot and cause traffic snarls and risk accidents, he said. “Water seeps in from all sides. This weakens the foundations, erodes and corrodes the materials inside, and deteriorates the structural integrity of the subway.” Unit trains, express and superfast trains ply over the subway all day long, and there is a continuous stream of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers movement under the subway throughout the day. If corrective action is not taken, a heavy price will have to be paid soon,” he added. He alleged that the authorities are passing the buck from one to another.
