Patna: A student preparing for NEET died by suicide after consuming poison at a hostel on A N Path under S K Puri police station area in Patna on Tuesday. The deceased, Shreyam, 18, was a resident of Bhagwanpur in Muzaffarpur district. He had been staying on the third floor of the hostel for the past two years while preparing for medical entrance examinations at a coaching centre in Patna.According to police, a highly toxic chemical was found next to his body on the bed. A suicide note was also recovered from the room.S K Puri SHO Jitendra Rana said police received information about the incident at 9.30am and immediately rushed to the spot. “Body has been sent for post-mortem and crucial evidence, including the chemical, suicide note and his cellphone, have been seized from his room. From suicide note, it appears that the boy was going through depression. He addressed the note to his parents, stating that he could not achieve what he wanted. He did not give any clear indication why he took this extreme step,” he said.Shreyam’s roommate was not present at the time of the incident as he had gone home for examinations. Hostel residents said the sound of a phone conversation was heard from Shreyam’s room until late into the night. When he did not respond to calls or knocks in the morning, his cousin Shubham, also a boarder at the hostel, along with friends and the warden, broke open the door and found him lying motionless on the bed.According to hostel owner Brijesh Kumar, Shreyam was last seen around 1am when he was carrying water to his room. Police informed the family in Muzaffarpur.The room has been sealed for further investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and police have initiated proceedings based on the suicide note and other evidence.
