Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started sending property tax bills across households in Salt Lake for the year 2026-27. Taxpayers will get a 5% tax rebate, excluding the arrear dues, if tax is paid within the due dates.For those taxpayers who did not clear the arrear tax dues of the last financial year, a 10% penalty and 10% interest are payable against the total arrear tax amount as it stands on March 31.Taxpayers can pay tax online by visiting the website www.bmcwbgov.in and pay through debit or credit cards, netbanking or Bharat Bill Payment System. Also, taxpayers can pay bills physically by visiting the designated bank branches within the BMC area from 11 am to 3 pm.For those paying by depositing cheque, it should be deposited at least two working days before the due date of payment to avail the rebate facility. Taxpayers should mention the assessee no., holding no., bill no., quarter no., contact no. and email ID (if available) on the back side of the cheque. In case a cheque is not accepted for any reason, payment will then be accepted by cash, and a clerical charge of Rs 250 per tax bill will be payable.BMC officials said that with residents of wards 27 and 28 covering Mahisbathan and Nayapatti started paying property tax for the first time since last year, there has been a 20% increase in collection of property tax and mutation fees in the last financial year, which ended on March 31.“Tax demand bills were generated and sent to taxpayers in these areas. Before the 2025-2026 financial year, residents of these areas used to pay ‘khajna’ or land revenue to the local BLRO office,” said an official. BMC has set a target to collect Rs 44 crore from property tax in this financial year.
