Tragedy struck in Muzaffarpur as the lifeless body of a 16-year-old was found hanging from a tree, mere days after he vanished. His mother is adamant that foul play is involved, claiming his death stems from a dispute related to eve-teasing, while his brother hints that family arguments over alleged drug use could have played a role.

Patna: The body of a 16-year-old boy was found hanging from a litchi tree at Laxmi Nagar under the Ahiyapur police station area in Muzaffarpur district on Sunday. The victim, Kishan Kumar, had been missing since Saturday evening.On receiving information about the incident, a police team reached the spot and recovered a cellphone and slippers. The body was later handed over to the family after a post-mortem at Shri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH).Kishan’s mother, Anita Devi, alleged that her son was murdered over a dispute related to eve-teasing. “My son was killed. He was beaten first and then his body was hanged from the tree by some local villagers,” she said. However, Kishan’s brother told police that he had been scolded at home over alleged drug use. “Only the police investigation can make things clear,” he said.Town DSP Vinita Singh said that, based on the spot inspection and initial evidence, the case prima facie appears to be a suicide. “The family has alleged assault and murder by some villagers. Police are investigating all angles thoroughly. The exact cause of death will be clear only after the post-mortem report. Further action will depend on the post-mortem findings and the FSL report,” she added.
