Based on the statement of the victim woman, an FIR has been lodged against the accused who, according to the victim, used to follow her on earlier occasions too.” Police have also seized the weapon used in the attack.Aditya Kumar, the brother-in-law of the victim, said, “My uncle Munna Seth, the father-in-law of Anu, had sustained fractures in both his legs in a road accident on Thursday when he was returning home from his jewellery shop in Banahi. On Saturday evening, the family members rushed him to Varanasi for better treatment. Taking advantage of the absence of the male members, the accused along with his accomplice entered our house like a burglar. Thinking him to be a thief, Anu’s daughter Aarohi Kumari raised an alarm, but by then the accused had attacked the neck of ‘bhabhi’ with a sharp-edged weapon.
