Kolhapur: Bombay HC’s Kolhapur bench set an 80-day deadline to complete the scrutiny of 1,320 primary member societies before holding polls for the new managing body of Gokul dairy, one of the state’s biggest milk cooperatives. The societies are facing show-cause notices for alleged violation of Cooperatives Act. The managing body’s current term ends on May 4. The HC order means the state will likely appoint an administrator to run Gokul’s day-to-day affairs until the exercise is over. The voters’ list had 5,740 primary societies. The disqualification/liquidation of 1,320 of them was sought on the grounds that they did not collect the required quantity of milk to be supplied to Gokul. —Abhijeet Patil
