Sasaram: A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death and his brother was critically injured over an old enmity between two families at New Girdharia village under Shivsagar police station area in Rohtas district on Sunday night.According to police, the deceased was identified as Pappu Singh, a resident of Madkan village. His younger brother, Vakil Singh, who sustained serious injuries, was initially admitted to the trauma centre at Sasaram sadar hospital. Considering his critical condition, doctors later referred him to Varanasi for advanced treatment.The incident occurred when the two brothers were returning from a ‘tilak’ ceremony. They were allegedly ambushed by members of a rival group, with whom they had an ongoing dispute. During the attack, Pappu Singh was stabbed multiple times with a sharp weapon, leading to his death on the spot, while his brother suffered grievous injuries.Sasaram SDPO Dileep Kumar said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that tensions had been brewing between the two sides over issues related to water supply and electricity connections. Villagers told police that clashes had occurred earlier as well, including a recent altercation just days before the incident.”Acting on the information, police reached the spot promptly, took the body into custody, and sent it for post-mortem to sadar hospital. Two accused, including Nitesh Tiwari and his wife Ranju Devi, have been taken into custody and are being interrogated.Meanwhile, family members of the deceased staged a protest at the police station, alleging negligence and claiming that prior complaints were ignored. “We have initiated a detailed investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings,” the SDPO added.
