1 held from Bihar, 3 from Picnic Garden for fraud

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police cybercrime units carried out two raids, leading to the arrest of four persons from Bihar and Kolkata. The accused were involved in separate financial and digital fraud rackets, worth over Rs 2 crore, police said.While one operation neutralized an interstate APK online invest fraud network, the other busted an illegal call centre at Picnic Garden that targeted foreigners.In the first case, a team from the detective department and Shakespeare Sarani PS tracked down and arrested a youth, Prashant Singh (26), from Gaya in Bihar on Friday, based on a Dec 2024 complaint. Singh and his associates operated a network that targeted bank account holders through vishing, a method involving calls to extract data, and tricking individuals into installing APK files on their devices. They stole Rs 74,33,367 from their targets.In the second raid, conducted by Kasba cops on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday on a first-floor flat on Picnic Garden Road, three persons—Lawrence Felix (46) of Tiljala, Sayem Akhtar (32) of Beniapukur and Md Asim (24) of Kasba—were arrested. Cops seized eight mobiles, three laptops, three routers and two debit cards used to defraud US citizens.
