Patna: Preparations for the state-level Independence Day celebrations at Gandhi Maidan have entered the final phase. Divisional commissioner Mayank Warwade on Thursday reviewed arrangements and directed officials concerned to complete all pending works on schedule.This year’s celebrations will feature tableaux from 13 departments, including environment and climate change, rural development, education, agriculture, industries, energy, and women and child development. Officials said 20 contingents will participate in the Independence Day parade, and regular rehearsals are already underway.District magistrate Kundan Kumar said Gandhi Maidan has been divided into four zones for effective management, with special arrangements being made in view of the monsoon season. Officials reviewed preparations related to sanitation, drainage, barricading, parking, electricity supply, drinking water, toilets, first-aid facilities, fire safety measures, sound systems, security and parade rehearsals.A temporary police station has been set up at Gandhi Maidan, while the venue and surrounding areas are being monitored through CCTV cameras. Officials were also directed to inspect high-mast lights and ensure adequate illumination across the venue.To prevent waterlogging in case of rain, civic authorities have been asked to keep sufficient suction machines on standby and ensure the smooth functioning of drainage systems around the ground. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma briefed officials on security arrangements for the event.Warwade said the I-Day function is among the state’s most important annual events and directed all departments to closely monitor daily progress and ensure timely completion of preparations.
