2 held for robbing jewellery store in Godda

Dumka: Two men were arrested for allegedly robbing a jewellery store in Godda on July 8, police said on Monday. A country-made pistol, cash and gold, obtained by melting the robbed ornaments, were seized from the accused with a motorcycle.The accused were identified as Ajit Yadav, 24, of Padariya village and Rajesh Yadav, 38, of Thadi village in Deoghar district.On July 8, three men stormed into the store, threatened its owner Basudev Roy at gunpoint, fired shots to terrorise bystanders before fleeing with around 300 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 2 lakh cash. A day later, an FIR was registered with the Town police station following which a special investigation team was set up by SP Mukesh Kumar to probe the incident.Kumar on Monday said, “We recovered a bike, a country-made pistol with a magazine and four live cartridges, Rs 41,500 in cash, and two melted pieces of yellow metal weighing about 39.93 grams, believed to be part of the looted jewellery.” The SP said few more arrests are expected soon.
