27% of voters in draft roll flagged for verification in SIR

Ranchi: Nearly 27% of Jharkhand’s draft electorate has been flagged for verification in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with 59.53 lakh anomalies identified among 2.21 crore electors, according to the Election Commission’s report published on Wednesday.Data published by the chief electoral office revealed a total of 14.04 lakh cases in which voters could not be mapped against electoral rolls, while 45.49 lakh entries were marked as discrepancies. Discrepancy cases account for more than three-fourths of the total flagged entries.CEO K Ravi Kumar said, “Only a few thousand more notices were likely to be issued. “There will be no significant increase except for forms received under categories 6, 7 and 8,” he said.The constituency-wise figures point to a clear urban-rural contrast. Urban and industrial constituencies reported some of the highest numbers of no-mapping cases, while tribal and rural seats accounted for a larger share of discrepancies.Jamshedpur East recorded the highest number of no-mapping cases at 68,586 and 27,040 discrepancies, taking its total anomalies to 95,626 — over 41% of its draft electorate. Jamshedpur West reported 59,666 no-mapping cases and Hatia 59,411.Mandar topped the discrepancy list with 88,847 cases, followed by Kanke with 84,829. Kanke’s total anomaly count, including no-mapping cases, stood at 1.31 lakh.Hatia recorded the highest overall number of anomalies at 1.38 lakh, followed by Kanke (1.31 lakh), Hazaribag (1.09 lakh), Bokaro (1.07 lakh) and Dhanbad (1.07 lakh). Seraikela, Jamshedpur West, Daltonganj, Deoghar and Mandar also crossed the 1-lakh mark.Officials clarified that the figures only identify entries requiring verification and do not indicate deletion of voters’ names. Final decisions will follow verification, hearings and disposal of claims and objections.
