4 held for cheating passengers at Ranchi rly station

Ranchi: Four members of a gang were arrested from the Ranchi railway station on Saturday for allegedly cheating passengers by posing as railway officials or travelling ticket examiners and promising confirmed train tickets, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) said in a statement.The arrested accused were identified as Mahesh Sahni, 37, Chandan Kumar, 24, Seetal Rai, 46, and Santosh Sahni, 31, the RPF added.Umar Saad Khan of Garhwa lodged a complaint with the RPF that the accused took Rs 2,000 from him on the assurance that they would arrange a railway ticket, but fled. The RPF launched a special checking drive and arrested Mahesh and Chandan from near the booking office, police said.Based on the revelations made by the two arrested accused, their associates Seetal and Santosh were arrested from the station premises.

All four have confessed to the crime, police added.As the case involved cheating, impersonation, criminal conspiracy, and possession of suspected stolen property, the accused were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP). A case was lodged with the GRP under relevant sections of the BNS for further legal action.A total of Rs 2,000, allegedly taken from the complainant, and nine mobile phones, including two suspected stolen phones, were seized from Mahesh.
