5 arrested in Godda rape case

Dumka: Five accused, including the alleged prime suspect, in the July 5 Godda gangrape case were arrested and sent to judicial custody, police said.The arrested accused were identified as Mohammad Akram (19), Noor Nabi (35), Mohammad Yusuf (22), Mohammad Asif (21), and Khurshid Alam (23) — all residents of Logain village under Mahagama police station in Godda district.SDPO Varun Rajak said, “The survivor, a resident of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, was on way to her relatives’ place in Godda district on July 5 when she reportedly met toto driver Akram. She reportedly told him that she has lost her mobile phone. Akram allegedly offered to help her recover the missing phone by taking her to a quack. He instead took her to a village, where he and his associates allegedly raped her. The survivor lodged an FIR on July 8.“Acting on the directions of Godda SP Mukesh Kumar, the investigation was carried out on the basis of scientific evidence and other corroborative material. The vehicle allegedly used in the crime and four mobile phones were seized from the possession of the accused. Raids are under way to nab one more suspect,” the SDPO added.
