Mumbai: Six persons have been arrested after a violent mob attacked a police team in Ghatkopar West, leaving one officer with a fractured arm and another with a serious head injury.The incident took place late Saturday night in the Haji Mulla Chawl area of Nityanand Nagar, triggering a tense law-and-order situation.Police said around 10pm, information began circulating in the locality alleging that a man had misbehaved with two minor girls of a particular community. Soon, a crowd of nearly 30 to 40 people gathered outside a house where the suspect, identified as Firoz alias Sunny Iqbal Shaikh, was reportedly hiding.Acting on a control room alert, a team from Ghatkopar police station reached the spot and attempted to take the accused into custody. However, as officers tried to escort him to the police vehicle, the mob turned aggressive and began assaulting the police personnel despite repeated warnings to maintain order.During the attack, police constable Koli was hit on the head with a helmet, causing heavy bleeding, while auxiliary staffer Rishabh Khandare sustained a fracture to his right arm after being brutally beaten. The mob also vandalised the police vehicle and obstructed officials from carrying out their duty.The injured officers were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. Ghatkopar police have registered a case against identified accused, including Gopal Rambrij Yadav, Nikhil Navnath Majire, Ravi Sahu, Anuj Sahu, and others, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assaulting public servants and rioting. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused.Further investigation is underway..
