85-yr-old undergoes robotic kidney tumour surgery in Patna hospital
In a remarkable feat, doctors at Paras HMRI Hospital in Patna have successfully removed a 10-cm kidney tumour from an 85-year-old patient using advanced robotic surgery. The complex procedure involved carefully detaching the mass, which was tightly bound to the spleen and other nearby structures.

Patna: Doctors successfully performed a robotic radical surgery on an 85-year-old patient to remove a 10-cm kidney tumour. The mass was found to be densely adherent to the spleen and adjacent internal structures, a condition attributed to a desmoplastic reaction. The operation utilised robotic systems to navigate the complex placement of the tumour. Surgeons focused on separating the mass from surrounding organs while maintaining the integrity of the vascular system. The hospital said the patient is in satisfactory condition.Dr Rajeev Kumar, senior consultant of urology, Paras HMRI Hospital, where the surgery was performed, said, “Removing such a large tumour in an 85-year-old patient, especially one that was adherent to nearby organs, was challenging. However, the enhanced precision, superior visualisation, and better control offered by robotic surgery enabled us to safely navigate complex anatomical structures and achieve a successful outcome.Zonal director of Paras HMRI Hospital, Anil Kumar, congratulated the team for the achievement.
