CHENNAI: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended appointment of 19 judicial officers and advocates as judges of Madras high court. In a meeting on Monday, the collegium approved three different proposals for appointment of judges presented by the state govt to the Union law minister and forwarded to the collegium. Presently, the Madras HC has 52 judges, while the sanctioned strength is 75, including 54 permanent and 19 additional judges. As many as 23 judges’ posts are vacant in Madras HC.The collegium has recommended judicial officers P Murugan, M D Sumathi, S Alli, C Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Dharmalingam Lingeswaran, Shri Karthikeyan Balathandayutham, Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Baluchamy Murugesan and N Gunasekaran and advocates Natarajan Ramesh, G K Muthukumaar, Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan, Sankaranarayanan Raveekumar, Nagarajan Dilip Kumar, Ellappan Manoharan, Krishnaswamy Govindarajan, Rajnish Pathiyil, K Appadurai alias Kandavel Appadurai and Ramasamy Anitha.They will be appointed as judges following assent from the President.
