CP submits probe report against ex-CP, others
Dossier submitted by KP CP in connection with the inquiry against three suspended IPS officers

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has submitted an overall report to the home department at Nabanna in connection with the ongoing inquiry against three suspended IPS officers — KP ex-CP Vineet Goyal, ex-DC (north) Abhishek Gupta, and ex-DC (Central) Indira Mukhopadhyay. The report was filed a couple of days ago, sources said. The trio has been suspended to facilitate “impartial investigation” into their roles in the handling of the RG Kar rape-murder case. The state administration had initiated departmental proceedings after chief minister Suvendu Adhikari announced their suspensions on May 15 at Nabanna.Sources at Lalbazar revealed that the report has been mainly drafted independently by two senior IPS officers before being sent for assessment to Kolkata police commissioner Ajay Nand, who subsequently compiled and forwarded the final document to the home department. The report tries to scrutinize the role played by the three suspended officers during the initial phase of the probe. However the two joint CPs who drafted the main report did not wish to speak to TOI. While one, currently on a separate assignment in Bengal Police, denied having any final authority, the other did not answer repeated calls. The dossier contains all general diary entries retrieved from the Tala Police Station regarding the rape-murder of the junior doctor on Aug 8, 2024. It also documents the subsequent day-to-day probe handled by Lalbazar’s detective department before the case was transferred to CBI.Furthermore, the report also reportedly details law enforcement’s response to the “Take Back the Night” mass protests on Aug 14, 2024, alongside a complete breakdown of the arrests, FIRs, and legal statuses stemming from the midnight vandalism of the hospital’s emergency department.According to Nabanna insiders, the probe will specifically look into under whose command Gupta allegedly offered Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s mother, and why Mukhopadhyay convened a press conference while the central agency’s probe was underway.Officials at Lalbazar have declined to comment on the report’s contents.
