Kolkata: The state govt has provided Rs 5 lakh and a forest volunteer job to the family of a woman who died following a fox bite in Purulia last year, marking the first time the state has offered compensation for such a death.On Sept 24, 2025, Pramila Rajak, a resident of Ichag in Jhalda forest, died after being bitten by a fox. On Thursday, Purulia MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato handed over a cheque to her husband, Dilip Rajak.Govt will also provide a job to Pramila’s son, Jitender Rajak, as a forest volunteer in Jhalda forest. The position carries a monthly remuneration of Rs 12,000.The move comes amid a sharp increase in fox-related injuries across several forest ranges in Purulia.Forest officials described the decision to provide a govt job to the bereaved family as an unprecedented step for the state forest department.
