Patna: The GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has fixed June 30 as the deadline for filing appeals against GST orders passed before April 1, 2026, and no appeals will be accepted after the portal closes, GSTAT Bihar vice-president Manoj Shankar said at an awareness programme organised by the Bihar Industries Association (BIA) in Patna on Tuesday.Addressing industrialists, traders, tax professionals and taxpayers, Shankar said GSTATs are now operational across the country and urged eligible taxpayers to file appeals well before the deadline to avoid last-minute difficulties.Technical member Sanjay Kumar Mavadiya said around 16,500 appeals have been filed before GSTATs nationwide so far. However, Bihar has recorded only 210 appeals despite having a much larger pool of eligible cases.BIA secretary general Amarnath Jaiswal said the business community expected the newly constituted tribunal to ensure fair and time-bound resolution of disputes between taxpayers and tax authorities.Judicial member Manoj Kumar Sinha said the tribunal would adopt a taxpayer-friendly approach and added that a help desk had been set up to assist taxpayers and professionals with filing-related issues.Assistant registrar Rajeev Kumar Pandey explained the e-filing process, documentation requirements and fee structure. He said the filing fee is 1% of the disputed amount for every Rs 1 lakh involved, subject to a minimum of Rs 5,000 and a maximum of Rs 25,000.During the interaction, BIA representatives highlighted challenges in the e-filing system, including word limits and the need to translate Hindi GST orders into English for filing appeals.
