Elderly farmer beaten to death in Godda

Dumka: A 65-year-old farmer was allegedly beaten to death over a dispute related to grazing of cattle at Baniadih village in Godda district on Monday night, police said. The deceased has been identified as Manilal Mandal.His wife was also injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment, police said on Tuesday. Manilal’s son, Pinku, said the incident occurred while he was at another family residence in the same village.He alleged that several villagers arrived at their old house and attacked his father with an iron rod, striking him on the head. Pinku further said that when his mother, Rita Devi, 60, attempted to save her husband, she was also assaulted.Following the incident, the family informed police and called for an ambulance. Manilal was rushed to Godda Sadar Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. The couple has two sons and two daughters.Mahagama sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Varun Rajak, said, “As per the initial report, both parties had an old dispute related to grazing of cattle on the field of the deceased. This led to a fresh brawl. An FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the BNS based on the statement of the victim’s son. Further investigation is underway.”
