NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall is likely to continue across several parts of the country on Thursday with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for multiple states in eastern, northeastern, western and southern India. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in several regions.Heatwave conditions may persist in parts of East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha.
IMD alert for Thursday
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Heavy rainfall is also likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Odisha, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, central Maharashtra and Marathwada.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Konkan, Goa and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.Thunderstorm activity with winds of 30-40 kmph is expected over Karnataka, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, West Bengal and Sikkim.The IMD has also forecast thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, over Bihar.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi-NCR is likely to witness isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph. Similar weather conditions are expected over parts of Haryana and Punjab.
Mumbai weather tomorrow
Mumbai is likely to continue witnessing monsoon activity, with the IMD forecasting widespread rainfall over north Konkan. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places across the region.The city may continue to experience intermittent spells of rain after the heavy showers recorded in recent days.
Northeast under rain watch
Widespread rainfall activity is likely to continue across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the coming days.
Rain forecast for west and south India
Konkan and Goa, which have already witnessed intense monsoon activity, are likely to continue receiving heavy rainfall.Coastal Karnataka is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain, while Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, central Maharashtra and Marathwada are also under heavy rain warning.Strong surface winds are likely over coastal Karnataka.
Bihar, Odisha and eastern India forecast
Heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar and Odisha, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Bihar may also witness thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph.Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with very heavy rain expected to persist over the region during the next few days.
Heatwave alert
Despite the ongoing monsoon advance, heatwave conditions are likely to persist at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha. Warm night conditions are also likely over isolated parts of Jharkhand.
Monsoon update
According to the IMD, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon currently passes through Dahanu, Wardha, Raipur, Daltonganj and Motihari.Conditions remain favourable for further advance of the monsoon into additional parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during the next two to three days.The monsoon is also expected to cover the remaining parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, and extend into more areas of Uttar Pradesh during the subsequent three to four days.
IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days
The weather office has indicated that active rainfall conditions are likely to continue across northeast India, the west coast and several parts of peninsular India over the coming week.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to persist over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, and parts of the northeast, while heatwave conditions may continue in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh through June 27.
