West Singhbhum police seek Army’s help to neutralise live mortar shell found on farmland

Jamshedpur: West Singhbhum police will seek the Army’s assistance to defuse a live mortar shell discovered in a farmland under Manoharpur police station limits on Tuesday.A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and CRPF personnel inspected the explosive device after it was found. “The process of obtaining Army assistance for the defusal operation is underway,” Manoharpur SDPO David Dhorey said.Police have deployed security personnel at the site to prevent villagers and passersby from approaching the area.“While no prohibitory orders have been imposed, adequate precautionary measures are in place to avert any untoward incident,” the SDPO added.The live mortar shell, measuring about two feet in length and weighing nearly 30kg, was unearthed by a farmer while ploughing a field in Sonpokhri village under the Manoharpur police station area on Tuesday.
