Ranchi: Jharkhand high court on Tuesday directed Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra and home secretary Vandana Dadel to appear before the court in a case involving detention of a minor in Doranda police station in the capital. The court of Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Akhil Kumar was hearing a petition for habeas corpus filed by one Feroz Ansari against the detention of his minor son in Doranda Police Station.Ansari has mentioned in his petition that his son was picked up by the police on Sept 4 and kept in custody in Doranda Police Station. His son was then remanded to custody. In the course of hearing today, the bench ordered Doranda Police Station officer in charge to produce the CCTV footage of Sept 4, upon which the police officer expressed helplessness and informed that the cameras are not in working condition in the thana. The court, reflecting its annoyance, observed that cameras should be operational in all police stations, roads and main points in the city. The court also said that despite several directions given earlier, cameras in police stations have not been made operational. The court then ordered DGP and home secretary to appear through video conference in virtual mode on the next date of hearing. The case will again be heard on Oct 12.
