Chatra: A 19-year-old boy was hacked to death and his 65-year-old uncle was critically injured after armed assailants entered their house asking for water shortly after a Muharram procession ended in Godhai village in Chatra district on Friday night, police said.According to reports, the attackers first asked the family for water and then started searching for Mohammad Shahjahan in the house. As soon as Shahjahan came before them, the accused struck him repeatedly on his thigh with sharp-edged weapons.Shahjahan collapsed on the ground. He was taken to Chatra Sadar Hospital, from where he was referred to Hazaribag and then to Rims in Ranchi, but he died on the way.Shahjahan’s uncle, Shabbir Mian, who rushed to save his nephew, was stabbed multiple times on both sides of his chest. He received 13 stitches and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ranchi. His condition is stated to be critical.Police suspect an old rivalry could be behind the attack. Family members said Shahjahan had an altercation with the accused three days ago and efforts were under way to resolve the matter through a panchayat meeting. However, before any settlement could take place, the accused allegedly carried out the attack. Shahjahan was living in Chhattisgarh with his family and had come to Godhai to spend time with his uncle.Sadar police station officer in-charge Awadhesh Singh said that Farhan Ansari and Faizan, sons of Sajid Ansari, have been named as accused in the case. “Police are conducting raids to arrest them,” he said.
