68-year-old cabbie killed in hit-and-run in Mumbai

Mumbai: A 68-year-old cabbie was killed in a hit-and-run while he stood next to his stationary cab at Aarey Colony recently. Police said he was hit by a tempo driver who fled from the location. An FIR was registered against the tempo driver subsequently.The deceased, Mazrul Khan, lived in Andheri East with his son, Iztekhar, who also works as a cabbie. Their family resides at their hometown in UP.On June 24, Mazrul left home at 8 am with his cab. Around 11.30 am, he called up his son and informed that he had been injured in a hit-and-run crash. Mazrul said that he had been standing next to his cab on the Aarey-Powai Road when a speeding tempo hit him. He suffered serious injuries to his lower back and fell down, unable to get up. He had managed to note down the tempo’s registration number.Iztekhar rushed to Aarey Colony where he found the supervisor from the tempo company. The supervisor told him that the tempo had been driven by Dharmendra Yadav.Iztekhar moved his father to the Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari where he succumbed to his injuries the same day. On June 25, Aarey Colony Police registered a case of rash driving and negligence against Yadav.
