Kolkata: Biswajit Sarkar, whose brother Abhijit Sarkar was allegedly killed during the 2021 post-poll violence, has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after fresh allegations of assault, criminal trespass and the forcible occupation of a factory.According to a complaint lodged at Narkeldanga PS by Mrityunjay Sana, a resident of Girish Vidyaratna Lane, Biswajit Sarkar and his aides allegedly assaulted him and forcibly took possession of his factory on June 24. Sana further alleged that the accused put a padlock on the factory’s main entrance and prevented him from entering the premises. However, Biswajit, speaking to TOI, denied the allegations, claiming he had merely taken possession of his own land and put a lock. “I have the relevant court orders. The age of extortion is over in Bengal. I have no reason to resort to violence because I believe in the rule of law. Those spreading canards are the ones who had been illegally occupying the factory. I can show the court documents to anyone who wants to see them. Anyone trying to spread fake news will face legal action for contempt of court,” he said.Biswajit added that he had spent years seeking justice and would never act in defiance of the law.The allegations, however, go further. The complaint states that when Mrityunjay and his cousin returned to reopen the factory on June 26, they were again allegedly beaten up by the same persons. The complainant also alleged that cash was forcibly taken from his pocket during the incident.“If they cannot prove what they are claiming, I will deal with them legally,” said Biswajit Sarkar while replying to the allegations.Biswajit was provided security under the witness protection scheme following the murder of his brother. On previous occasions, local Trinamool Congress leaders have alleged that he misused the security cover and was involved in unlawful activities, though none of those allegations has been judicially established.
