Clerk arrested for taking bribe in Nalanda

Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) team on Wednesday arrested a clerk of the sub-divisional office at Hilsa in Nalanda district, and a private agent for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs22,000. The accused, Neelam Kumar Chaudhary and Sunil Kumar Sinha, were caught red-handed in the law branch of the office.According to the VIB, complainant Dilip Narayan Singh, a resident of Ramfar under Aungari police station in Nalanda district, alleged that the clerk and the private agent had demanded Rs22,000 to secure a favourable order in Case No. 433 (U)/2022 pending before the court of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Hilsa.The VIB said it verified the complaint and found prima facie evidence supporting the allegation of bribery. Subsequently, Vigilance PS Case No. 78/2026 was registered on July 1, 2026, and a trap team led by DSP Sanjay Kumar was constituted.The team apprehended both accused while they were allegedly accepting the bribe.After interrogation, the accused will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna.
