Bokaro: The cases of chain-snatching reported in Bokaro over the past few days has raised serious concerns about public safety among residents and traders, who are demanding stronger policing.Three motorbike-borne masked miscreants robbed a jeweller at gunpoint in Jaina Moad area under the Jaridih police station limits late Tuesday. Ranjit Baranwal, owner of Maa Abhushanalay, said, “I was returning home after closing the shop around 9 pm when the miscreats intercepted me. One of them allegedly struck me with a bamboo stick, and pointed a pistol at the chest before snatching a bag containing over Rs 1.25 lakh in cash and other valuables. The attackers then fled on their motorcycle.”Earlier in the day, two motorcycle-borne snatchers snatched a gold chain from Savita Devi near Mahavir Chowk in Chas town area and fled.A week ago, a woman was targeted near Dharamshala Chowk.Members of the Jaina More Traders’ Association said that if businessmen are being targeted in a busy market, ordinary citizens can hardly feel secure.Chamber of Commerce, Jaridih, president Sanjay Singh said, “If police fail to arrest the criminals within 24 hours, traders will be compelled to call a total bandh.”Manoj Kumar, a local resident, said, “Incidents of theft, loot, and chain snatching have created fear in the area. We feel unsafe and hence, seek stronger police patrolling and immediate action against accused in all the cases.Another resident, Neha Kumari, said, “Women and elderly feel unsafe even during day. Police must take strict action against the offenders without delay.”SP Bokaro Nathu Singh Meena said, “Police are making every effort to nab the accused.”
